SR Faults
A recent geophysical study confirms the presence of four seismic faults that pass through the campus of San Rafael Elementary School.  Evidence of the faults was discovered during routine studies as part of the preparation for Measure TT renovation projects at San Rafael.

Because the classrooms and buildings of San Rafael meet Field Act requirements for earthquake safety, which are more stringent for schools than for residential and commercial buildings, the safety of students and faculty is not in question. However, state law requires that schools cannot be modernized or rehabilitated within 50 feet of earthquake faults that have shown signs of activity within the last 10,000 years.

PUSD is examining several options for the future of San Rafael and seeks the community's input. Send your comments or questions communications@pusd.us

A presentation to the Board of Education is scheduled June 26, with a break over the summer, further community meetings to narrow options in the fall and recommendations made to the Board in October. See the powerpoint presentation from the June 2 community meeting.
